Trauma here is used in a
broad way, anything that overwhelms one’s nervous system, such as, continuous
stress, surgery, loss of a family member or loved one, economic loss, childhood
abuse, acts of war, accidents, injuries etc. Everyone responds differently to
various stressful situations, so an event that is traumatic for one person may
not be for another. When an individual gets a chance to express their
fight/flight energy in some way recovery from trauma is more complete.
In the process of recovering from stored trauma it can be important to create an
experience that relaxes and slows the nervous system allowing neurons to
reestablish lower firing thresholds. Stored trauma energy can cause us to
over-respond to physical, emotional, and mental stimuli, resulting in higher
levels of anxiety, explosive behavior, fear, despondency and physical pain.
Energy Balancing creates a deep level of stillness and allows clients to release
stored fight/flight energy through sensations such as heat, cold, tingling, and
twitching. The client also learns self-regulating relaxation techniques.
